Caren Kaufman, a psychotherapist and social worker for 25 years, passed away peacefully on February 10th. She and her husband Steven were married for 28 years and she was a devoted, caring, and supportive mother to their son Sam and daughter Isabel.
Caren started her career as a social worker at Jewish Family Services and CHOP before working at several behavioral health clinics where she helped countless people. In addition to her work, she was a tireless advocate for the environment, serving on the board of directors for both Sustainable Cherry Hill and Sustainable South Jersey. She also fostered and adopted dogs through Woof Love, saving them from abusive or unsafe living situations.
Caren was an avid musician and patron of the arts, playing flute, piccolo, and alto sax in the Lehigh College marching band. She loved to travel, and was able to go on trips all over the world with her family. She loved nature, spending times in the forests of Vermont and in National Parks throughout the country.
Caren is survived by her husband Steve, her children Sam and Isabel, her parents Nad, Bruce, and Bob, and her sister Deborah.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Caren Kaufman’s memory to the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper’s Patient In Need Fund or the The Pinelands Preservation Alliance.
