hey y’all. it’s been a little over two weeks since my surgery and so i figure it’s time i give you an update.
i think overall the surgery went pretty well. the doctors are pleased with themselves at the work they were able to do. lmao. i think i’m doing pretty well too. the pain at this point is minimal. i only really feel it when i do something i’m not supposed to do.
at this week’s followup appointment i was cleared to drive (as long as i’m comfortable with checking my blindspot) but i wasn’t cleared for work. i’m a little frustrated about that but there’s nothing i can really do about it. the nurse also put a little more air in my tissue expanders, which was really weird. i watched them inflate like little balloons. i’m definitely recording it the next time they do it, so you guys can see.
let’s talk cancer…
the pathology report from surgery came back and unfortunately we didn’t get the news we were praying for. the chemo didn’t work as much as we had hoped. one of the lymph nodes that was removed still tested positive. in a nutshell, what that means is that after radiation i will have to more chemo. a different type, kadcyla.
fourteen rounds. at three week intervals.
this also pushes my next surgery back. so i was pretty disappointed earlier in the week, but i’ve made my peace with it. just gotta keep swimming and rolling with the punches as they come.
right now, i’m gonna keep doing what the docs tell me to do and wait to get cleared for work and radiation. the radiation will be twenty rounds daily, so four weeks. i will be meeting the radiation oncologist next week but i don’t yet know when the sessions will begin. radiation in the breast area can be pretty rough, not at all like what i experienced to my spine so i’m bracing myself.
lastly, i have started fundraising for boot walk again. thank you to everyone who has already donated and passed the link forward. i really appreciate it. you guys amaze me every year. at the beginning of the week i had only raised north of $300 and today i’m knocking on $5,000!!
fin.
