stages and other updates

ok. so i owe you updates from last weeks appointments, post chemo.

heres our list…

  1. echocardiagram
  2. mda consult
  3. mda mammo & ultrasound
  4. lymph node biopsy
  5. port placement surgery
  6. pause oral chemotherapy / continue xgeva
  7. six five more rounds of two chemo infusions & two immunotherapy infusions, every 3 weeks
  8. breast mri
  9. surgeon consult(s)
  10. mastectomy
  11. resume oral chemotherapy
  12. rounds of two immunotherapy infusions, every 3 weeks for a year

so last week, i had several appointments— monday, pre-chemo labwork; tuesday, chemo; wednesday, breast mri; and thursday, surgeon consult 1.

let’s talk the abject terror that was the breast mri aka number 8. listen, i don’t know if it was because i was still sore from the port placement, or if it was because of the long infusion day right before, but it was awful.

i think at this point we are all familiar with mri’s, right? you lie on the platform, go through the large ring and there’s lots of loud knocking that headphones never do a great job of masking. well add to this mix that you are face down, on an upwards ramp, with the twins hanging in their own voids with a chest plate in between.

anywho, once that was over i was extremely happy to be going home.

next up? surgeon consult 1. so let’s get all the way into it, shall we? i actually met with this surgeon the last time i entertained getting a mastectomy and i gotta be honest. i was not impressed. there’s a lot to be said of bad days, first impressions and do overs. i did not like her. like at all. but i have always been told how awesome she is and now that she’s moved to methodist i agreed to see her again. i wasn’t holding my breath, but i went. and let me tell you, completely different appointment.

like night and day. everything was so much better than our previous encounter. i walked away feeling really good about her, my options and outlook. i am so happy i decided to give her another visit. i mean we all have bad days, i’m chalking the last appointment up to just that.

i still have an mda surgeon consult next month on the calendar so i’m not making any decisions yet regarding the procedure but i am feeling encouraged.

i think that’s all the updates i have for now…wait i’m lying. the lymph node biopsy results came back and no surprise, it’s positive. it will have to be removed when i have surgery. it also means the new cancer is stage iii.

fin.
