today the village included momma and kiana in person, and sal on the phone. kiana came in the office with me, #covidrules and whatnot. we asked a ton of questions. she explained what her recommended plan of action is…
preliminary treatment plan. two phases of chemotherapy. first phase is four rounds of two medicines – adriamycin and cytoxin – every other week for 8 weeks. after that, depending on my HER2 final results being negative another twelve weekly rounds of taxol. then comes surgery – lumpectomy or masectomy, radiology – if lumpectomy, followed by reconstructive surgery. then presto chango done.
so obviously that was a quick and dirty timeline. the truth is cancer is cancer, and this is all happening quickly and the treatment plan can change pending other test results. they still want to begin chemo next week, because that first phase doesn’t change and we want to get it started sooner than later.
the type of cancer i have is very common, and highly treatable. my doctors are confident that with the treatments, they can knock it out and estimate the overall process taking a year give or take.
i have a busy schedule coming up, assuming i stick with them. blood tests today, ct and bone scans next week, followed by port placement surgery, then first chemo wednesday or thursday. they recommend wednesday or thursday to give my body 3 or 4 days to recover so im hoping to be able to work from home in between appointments.
and we’re off…
